"10-minute Cultural Trip" in Guangzhou
With more and more public libraries appearing in different communities across Guangzhou, Guangzhou Daily reports the creation of what has been named a "10-minute Cultural Circle."
Ms. Wang, living on Binjiang Dong Lu explains to the reporter "there are various cultural venues near my home. It's only a five minutes walk from the Guangzhou Youth and Children's Library, the Wenxin Gallery along the Pearl River, the Zhujiang Gallery in Haizhu Square and the North Gate of Sun Yat-sen University."
Mr. Zhou, lives on Xianlie Zhong Lu in Yuexiu District and he is also pleased with the number of cultural venues in his neighborhood: "Huanghuagang Theatre is only a few minutes away, Huanghuagang Park is now free of charge so I can go jogging there in the morning. Nearby there is the new No.13 Theatre and a creative avenue is soon going to open on Taihegang Lu."
Although Guangzhou's public finances dropped by 10% in 2009, the funds made available for the construction of cultural venues increased by 15.9% year-on-year to reach 67.37 million RMB.
