She often speaks of the influence of eastern culture on her work. Based in eastern philosophy, the 'Muller Technique' acknowledges an energy system in the body as the internal source of movement. The technique focuses on the use of a creative mind to expand technical proficiency, imagining the body as a living instrument.
Jennifer Muller's work has been characterized as "sensual," "inspired," "luminous," and "impassioned". Recognized as a "seminal influence on dance and theatre," she is known for her expressive style, unusual stage environments and radical incorporation of spoken dialogue.
She formed her own company, Jennifer Muller and "The Works" in 1976, and has premiered over 90 pieces with artistic collaborators such as Yoko Ono, Keith Haring and Keith Jarrett. She toured with the company to thirty-eight countries and four continents, and produced 19 NYC Seasons.

The dancers of the company are renowned both for their technical virtuosity and expressive capability. Ms. Muller draws out of her dancers the feelings of energy, athleticism, passion and grace - a process to uncover each performer as an individual, without compromising the overall integrity. The company communicates directly to the audience about issues that touch their lives.
For more than three decades, Jennifer Muller and "The Works" has used a multi-disciplinary technique that weaves theatre, dance, and eastern philosophy to tackle a diverse array of subject matters, from urban life and human rights violations, to wild horses and the environment.
