1. Learn a few catch phrases:
Open the conversation with catch phrases like Ni hao ma?, (How are you?) or a Duo shao qian?, (How much?). It will ease you up to the bargaining table and will put a smile on the vendor's face. Learn some phrases.
2. Practice a little on inexpensive items:
Before you have your heart set on something, practice bargaining a little for something to which you are less attached and can therefore walk away if necessary. Small inexpensive items like tea pots, fans and chopsticks can all be good things to buy for souvenirs. Warm up a little before you get into the higher ticket items.
3.Take your time:
Being in a rush is disadvantageous to bargaining, because the vendor has all the time. If you can, take time and don't be rushed. If the seller isn't coming down on the item you want, walk away and peruse other stalls; sometimes the seller will sell the item when you walk away.
4. Decide how much you're willing to spend on an item:
Decide what the item is worth is a good way to fight against the high prices you don’t accept. Just set a bottom or ceiling price on your mine and you’ll focus on bargin around the price.
5. Use the Walk Away:
Walk-away usually works quite well. After you reach an impasse and the price is still too high, you give the final offer and walk away slowly, but still looking at other items. Usually you’ll be called back.
6. Don't feel sorry for the seller:
Vendors will usually say "Now my child won't have any dinner," "You are getting this for less than I paid for it!", so that you may feel sorry for your hard bargaining.Actually, you don’t have to, because they are making a profit.
